Sr Manager Global Transportation - McCook IL
Purpose : The Sr. Manager Global Transportation is responsible for global supply chain logistics activities from manufacturer to end user points of delivery. Manages multiple projects to ensure network partners provide transport services that meet defined financial performance, service standards, and performance levels. Manages annual budget of $15M+.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Balances competing considerations (e.g. cost with on-time delivery of merchandise.) Has a complete understanding of managing risks, reducing costs and cycle time, as well as keeping internal customers informed on the flow of merchandise and goods.
Directs Lawson's global transportation strategy to ensure inbound and outbound delivery deadlines are met, including all modes of transportation across Lawson sales channels and non-merchandise global procurement movement. Modes include (international shipping, air, truck, LTL, small parcel, private and dedicated fleets).
Develops transportation policies relating to procurement of services, ensuring sound analyses and metrics are used to make recommendations, plan, and accomplish goals improving the customer experience.
Oversees negotiations with transportation vendors, cultivating and maintaining relationships to enable greater efficiencies and cost savings. Manages vendor service to ensure best-in-class service to internal and external customers.
[Confidential] Design, develop the potential of, and then manage 3rd party partnership of dedicated fleet operations performing cabinet management and customer deliveries in select markets; inclusive of local transportation supervision.
Benchmarks service providers and procedures against industry standards and peer companies.
Presents key initiatives and opportunities at meetings, providing sufficiently-detailed reporting to management to facilitate decision-making.
Manages the development and reporting of logistics information to support end users, including the development and improvement of Supply Chain Visibility tools (e.g. ADSI, Freight Payment, Transportation Scorecard, etc.)
Develops and improves logistics initiatives that support the Lawson brands.
Approves proposed carrier changes, reviewing specific rate information, Department of Transportation driver certification records, and insurance documentation. Informs management of any changes that may affect Company policy and profits.
Provides guidance to Operation Directors in the preparation of local freight budgets. Reports on the performance of actual expenses to budget, and the financial progress of current projects.
Designs an innovative transportation network, reducing overall cycle time, with an execute-to-promise methodology.
Manages, identifies, and cultivates future leaders on the Supply Chain team.

Required Travel: 15%
Excellent negotiation and time management skills.
Broad knowledge of fleet operations, freight programs, carrier negotiations, and desktop and/or cabinet management delivery.
Strong analytical and computer skills with advanced experience MS Excel, Access, and Power Point
Remote multi-facility and/or personnel management experience.
SAP and Manifest system (e.g. ADSI) experience is a plus
Import / Export compliance knowledge (i.e. CTPAT, NAFTA, Customs, adherence to international laws) is a plus
Ability to analyze data to identify trends and gaps with the development of improvement strategies across the supply chain
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, with an ability to work across boundaries and boarders, and comfortable with complex data sets
Experience in managing a budget of $12M + annually
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: (including certificates and licenses)
Bachelor's degree preferred with transportation management, procurement, and/or supply chain experience, plus fifteen (15) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in working and operating with a wide variety of supply chain concepts, practices and procedures.
Experience in Lean environment a plus
Experience managing a multi-site operation
