Senior Manager, Strategic Pricing

We’re looking for a motivated Sr. Manager of Strategic Pricing, responsible for establishing and managing the customer quotations process and leading a team of pricing and quotations analysts, margin managers and cross-reference specialists. This position focuses on growing strategic accounts and large order volume sales through price-competitive strategies. Our Sr. Manager of Strategic Pricing oversees the contract management process and ensures pricing activities are within the customer contract parameters.

Responsibilities:

  • Works cross-functionally other areas to attain strategic objectives.

  • Leads cross-functional team that develops each customer pricing proposal and quotation in the iterative process of item identification, pricing, profitability analysis and presentation to the customer.

  • Develops skills of Bids & Quotations analysts and Margin Managers.

  • Assesses checkpoints throughout the bids process to determine if objectives are being met.

  • Maintains and analyzes historical quote information to build a knowledge base and improve future win-rate and profitability.

  • Makes recommendations to senior management team on process and tactical pricing changes.

  • Builds and maintains relationships both internally within the organization and externally with the customers. Provides relevant training and insights to internal customers.

  • Develops and implements pricing-related metrics, including bid/win ratio and price/cost/mix analyses, to support decision-making.

  • Maintains product knowledge and regularly monitors industry pricing practices, particularly for major competitors, primary markets and sensitive product categories.

  • Develops and manages profitability reporting methodology and tactics.

  • Manages the reporting and analysis of pricing/margin related metrics for pricing, finance and senior management.

  • Manages the process to identify and implement margin improvement opportunities as well as mitigation tactics to avoid risk.

  • Structures price optimization plan based on contract/agreement terms.

  • In conjunction with the Sales and Bids teams, implements strategies to maintain/optimize contract margins.

  • Assists with contract/agreement language as it pertains to pricing.

  • Designs and maintains databases and analytical decision support tools required to support the strategic pricing initiative.

  • Keeps informed on current technology and pricing methodologies.

  • Identifies, creates and propagates best practices throughout the group.

  • Understands company value proposition and product positioning against competition.

  • Responsible for creating, refining, and implementing project-based activities related to Bids & Quotations, Contract Management and Cross Referencing.

  • Manages freight recovery opportunities pertaining to Bids and Contracts.

  • Responsible for acquisition integration of customer contracts.

  • Issues run from delegating simple spot quotes to staff for completion to attending to Strategic Account opportunities: reviewing bid requests, executing cross reference of products required to be priced and evaluated, modeling pricing options and likely financial outcomes, and working with Finance and Sales functions to arrive at viable pricing scenarios for particular customers and prospects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with five years’ pricing experience in b2b distribution, retail or related field and three years leadership experience in data-intensive, analytic environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Industrial distribution experience preferred.
