Partners with resources associated with Lawson Products information technology (IT) infrastructure. Responsible for maintenance, implementation, and configuration infrastructure activities including: network activities LAN/WAN, SDWAN, Routing/Switching, Security, Firewall, VPN, PBXs, Wireless, PRTG monitoring solution, Cisco Unity and phone systems integration, and on premise VMware and Windows servers
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sets the design specifications and configurations for LAN, WAN telecommunications and phone system environment, working with other IT resources, internal business representatives and our outsourcing providers.
Ensures quality of service in areas of our WAN, LAN, Data Center and connections to external IT providers.
Develops and implements policies and procedures related to network hardware, security and telecommunications.
Works with telecommunication vendors for issue resolution, implementation of new telecommunications technologies & follow up on billing issues.
Reviews telecommunication vendor invoices to ensure all items on the invoice are understood and charges are accurate.
Participates in the negotiations of contracts with and coordinates activities of hardware, software, telecommunications, support, and training vendors.
Works with internal IT staff to impart knowledge of internal systems.
Mentors and leads staff members that work with the same technologies, but lack the experience of a Senior Infrastructure Engineer.
Communicates with other departments to report and resolve performance, hardware, and operations problems.
Researches and evaluates new technologies.
Examines entire network landscape to and works with partners find inefficiencies and make recommendations for improvements.
Provides input to assist with the negotiations of contracts with, and the coordination of activities for, hardware, software, telecommunications, support, and training vendors
Gives input into disaster recovery procedures and architecture.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Travel: Very little travel required. Site visits are required occasionally.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Experience troubleshooting and advising related to WAN and LAN environments.
Extensive knowledge of technologies for network, switches, telecommunications and network security.
Expert knowledge of SDWAN technologies, preferably Viptela (now Cisco SDWAN).
Extensive knowledge of wireless WAN technologies and wireless security standards.
Extensive knowledge of PBX, VoIP, PSTN, Cisco Unity, of physical and software knowledge of phone and telecommunications technologies.
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft, Exchange, File and Print services, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP.
Extensive knowledge of Virtualization such as knowledge of vSphere, vCenter and VMware ESX.
Ability to perform quality work autonomously or with minimal oversight. Able to analyze problems and situations quickly to resolve system issues. Able to work on multiple tasks with changing priorities, maintaining a strong customer service work ethic. Able to learn new technologies, programs and procedures quickly.
Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation.
Effective communication skills are essential, including the ability to accurately analyze problems, explain solutions, and present technical solutions to non-IT people in non-technical manner. Knows how to effectively deal with conflict situations with customers and peers and to be open to, and honest with, feedback and constructive criticism and guidance. Able to help others learn while solving problems and getting the job done.
Strong understanding of project management concepts and team roles. Experience with project team participation.
Must be able to work as part of a collaborative team to solve problems and assist outside partners as needed. Able to work with people at all levels within the organizational structure.
Experience supporting network, telecommunications, and server monitoring solutions.
Very strong troubleshooting abilities with the skill to dive into a problem, providing critical analysis to determine solutions that are backed up by data and empirical evidence.
Ability to provide solutions that provide the right balance between quality and cost.
Extensive knowledge of local area network hardware, software, and telecommunications services such as: personal computers, mobile devices, tablets, operating system software (Microsoft), printers, servers, routers, bridges, switches, modems, cabling, and Internet service providers.
Able to identify changes in business needs or direction and translate these changes into successful solutions through effective project management.
Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor's degree a plus in information technology, engineering, computer science, business, or related field plus at least 5 years of work experience in an Information Technology or a related area, with an emphasis on IT infrastructure activities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CCNA, CCDP, CCIE, CCAr or similar Cisco Certification a plus.
